Teamsters Canada Rail Conference

Attention Running Trades Employees:

Effective at 1200 MDT on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009, the CMA enhancements for the 24 hour home terminal rest provision will be in effect for all terminals in the Canadian Pacific system. Please be aware that this automated Home Terminal rest enhancement has been piloted for a three (3) month period in select terminals across the network.

Home Terminal Rest was ratified in 2008 with the new MOS. Home Terminal Rest stipulates that if an employee books exactly 24 hours rest at the home terminal then s/he is expressing the desire to remain at the bottom of the pool or spareboard until the expiration of the 24 hours. Accordingly, every employee arriving at the home terminal and booking anything more or less than 24 hours rest will move around the home terminal rest employee. The home terminal rest employee will commence moving up the pool or spareboard upon the expiration of their booked rest.

Please also be reminded that the Home Terminal rest provision has not altered your craft's particular rest provisions - if you were in a craft that was not able to book 24 hours rest, all current rest provisions remain in force, and you will not be able to use the Home Terminal rest enhancement.

Penalty rest is defined as rest taken by the employee if s/he has given notice and has worked in excess of 10 hours. If an employee takes any or all of his/her penalty rest in conjunction with 'regular' rest and the combined amount is less than or greater than 24 hours, then home terminal rest placement is automatically negated by the CMA system, and the employee is placed in the pool or on the spareboard using the current placement rules.

Thank you,
CMC Management team
